Choice or Chosen

Nowadays, with the development of various technologies, young moderns are able to access different products easily. The wide range of assorted brands in the market give people more options. Nine out of ten people probably have a smart phone as well as a laptop, but the brands may vary. For myself, purchasing products or services using my own decisions is not always enjoyable – sometimes I have regrets. However, I do learn lessons each time such as to what is suitable for me and what is not.

Agatha Mary Clarissa Christie DBE

First of all, mystery/detective novels are books I have enjoyed reading since I was young. I read many crime stories, but my favourite author, Agatha Christie, is different. I started to read her mystery novels when I was twelve, fell in love with her books, and have read them ever since. The way she depicted the stories always attracted me, and I could not help but spend hours finishing each book. I understand that not many people like crime stories because they think they are not as interesting as romances, or they may think the subject matter is horrible, but I just cannot say no to them. Perhaps there is an evil side to me, and I release it through reading the book… I sometimes wonder.

Crabtree & Evelyn

The next item is the skin care products of Crabtree & Evelyn. Due to my special love of rosewater, I looked for a brand that had products made with rose essence. I tried several different brands, but Crabtree & Evelyn was the best. They have so many skin care products for customers to choose from. I love their body wash the most because it makes my skin smooth, and the smell is delicious! Moreover, the services in the shops are also good; the saleswomen are friendly and will try to help you as much as they can - this makes me love the brand even more.

Emily Carr University

The last thing is my studies. Since I was little, I was always interested in arts. Although I had never learned drawing skills before I came to Canada, I always did well in arts at school. Therefore, I decided to pursue what I am always interested in for my future. After several researches and understanding of some art schools in Canada and the United States, I decided to go to Emily Carr University. I definitely talked to my parents about it. They were not fully supportive at first because they thought there were better choices of fields for me. However, after told them what I thought, they were convinced and being very supportive since then.

When we are young, parents always play the role of decision makers; but when we grow up, there are many things for us to decide. Being a good consumer is sometimes a big challenge, but we can always learn things from it. Although I chose all three things, somehow I think I was “manipulated”by the marketing in some ways: perhaps it is the exciting narration of Christie’s stories, or being bombarded by the irresistible fragrance of rosewater of Crabtree & Evelyn as I walk into their shop, or the artistic feelings around the campus makes me want to be part of it.
