Uniqueness

Speak and Listen

If I could change one thing about the designed world or about life in the designed world, it would be to unify languages into a common global one. Imagine a world in which people communicate with each other through one mother tongue: they could understand each other with ease and reduce misunderstandings. It would also end many controversies and the need for translations or interpreters. Moreover, people do not need to spend time on learning foreign languages, and they will not be ridiculed over the nonstandard accent or grammar. According to an on-line article written by Canico, “[being] able to communicate with people from all over the world would open up huge opportunities for work, study, and relationships” (Canico). However, some might say, “[when] languages become extinct this results in the loss of a uniqueness and cultural identity which was embedded within it” (Jade). Languages are surely related to their ethnic culture, and losing the language is equivalent to losing the ethnicity. But when we think about everything using one uniform language, we might create one (the language is one) or several new cultures – there are many different races in the world, after all.

Making the Global Village closer

Having one language would not only make worldwide communications easier, but also bring the Global Village closer. With more advantages than disadvantages, unifying the languages into one would not be a bad idea. Therefore, having everyone speaking in the same language would be the one thing that I would like to change about this designed world.
